Press Release

GREENVILLE, SC, – Veteran executives in marketing, web design and custom software development have joined forces to create Six Degrees Innovations, offering businesses the rare combination of effective creative design and programming, giving customers turnkey solutions for business.

The business is the outgrowth of collaborations by internet marketing designer Donnie Henderson with software developer Randy Lee. The pair observed a compelling business need to combine both solid web design with effective software design to address business needs.

“Web designers and software programmers arrive at the business challenge from totally different points of view – one focused on look and feel and the other focused on core technology. These opposing points of view can lead to strategic and execution problems. The approach at Six Degrees Innovations is completely different – one of collaboration from the start,” said Donnie Henderson, a partner at Six Degrees Innovations. Lee agrees, “By uniting design with technology, Six Degrees Innovations helps businesses achieve their goals. For our customers, that gives them one-stop shopping.”

The company currently represents numerous clients including CDA Architects, MainMarketingPoint and Carol Pyfrom Realty.

The firm offers COMPASS (A complete marketing plan assessment), professional web site implementation, logo and brand development, search engine marketing, email marketing, social media integration, product promotion and customer development, web traffic analysis, and marketing effectiveness tracking.

About Six Degrees Innovations :

What we have been trying to say all along

The following link is great on so many levels.  Since I don't think we could say it better ourselves, I'm not even gonna try.

A short sample of the awesomeness within: "Search Engine Optimization is not a legitimate form of marketing. It should not be undertaken by people with brains or souls. If someone charges you for SEO, you have been conned."

http://powazek.com/posts/2090

The conclusion:  Search engine strategy is about good web site and content design.  6di does this as part of every web site deployment because a web site without it isn't really much of a web site.  I am a big fan of common sense.

Six Degrees of Technology - "Small" Compromises

Going PostalThis week's topic involves using advanced styling in HTML emails. I chose this topic because we recently went through the process of building some nice looking email templates for a client.  As any good web designer will tell you (and we have a great one), the best way to design a styled web page is with the use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for all of your design.  This includes fonts, layout, colors, backgrounds - all defined in a separate file from your HTML.  Check out CSS Zen Garden for some great examples. This would be what is commonly known as separating your style from your content, and it is a cornerstone of good web design.  Business software developers understand this methodology inherently.  We are taught to "loosely couple" the different layers of our applications as well (data from business rules, business rules from graphics).  We can also separate our Javascript completely from our HTML with something like JQuery if we are being diligent. All of this makes your software easier to build, maintain, and modify with as little cost as possible.

Six Degrees of Technology - Intro
Written by Randy L

Here is the first of what I hope will become a weekly (if not more frequent) blog on computer software, hardware, or whatever else I have on my mind from week to week.  Over the last month, I have been trying to decide what I would like to blog about.  I knew that I needed to start contributing something, partially because I want to show our clients how useful a blog can be in helping to define your company (and yourself) to the outside world.  It also serves as a way to practice communicating effectively.  If you are like me, this gets difficult to remember when you have your head down and are trying to keep projects rolling out quickly and efficiently.

After much deliberating, I finally decided to take some of our own counsel and blog about what I know.  In this spirit, I plan to focus each entry on a new technology tip, trick, or general philosophy.  Software developers often have to learn new things the hard way, usually by failing repeatedly, often publicly, and sometimes embarrassingly. We are generally expected to exhibit a high level of competence and confidence in a field that is marked by constantly evolving, sometimes poorly constructed "technology".  My hope, then, is to share some of my knowledge as a service to my fellow techies in the hope that I can help them avoid learning it the hard way.  Non-techies are, of course, invited to listen in as well.

New Blog Entry, Fletcher Images

Fletcher Images Site

Well I figured it was about time for a second blog post. I know, we are not being good social mediaites by waiting so long between these post, but I hope to be much more “regular” in posting future updates.

We have just finished our 1st from start to finish client website. It's for a great client, Fletcher Images, and you can go see the results right now at FletcherImages.com. This is one of those dream sites you are always hoping you will get. It is an interesting business and best of all great photography (Design is always easier when you have great photography).

Well let me tell you a little about the process. We went through the COMPASS plan with Fletcher Images and really defined what our objectives were. They knew they had a great product and a great price. They just needed a better way of showing off the portfolio online and they needed a strong web strategy.

Most photographers in Columbia used flash when they were trying to create an impactful impression. That didn't mesh with our strategy mainly because of flash's lack of search engine friendliness. But with Randy's technical prowess we were able to deliver a “flashy” experience while still being Search Engine Friendly. Then once we had the look and feel that we were wanted we started focusing on content.

Search engine marketers love to talk about keywords. But we feel that keywords don't mean anything without good content to back it up. Google says “Content is King” and we follow that belief as well. We went through his content and merged the marketing with information and we think we have struck a great balance. Now we are in the process of getting the word out. Submitting to all the search directories, working with the client to build his social media program, and tracking the sites performance with analytics.

We congratulate Fletcher Images on the new site launch and look forward to having a long and prosperous relationship.

New Business and Exciting Times.

Well the web site is almost finished. Randy and I have been talking about starting a new business for over a year now. We talked about starting a dot com, but the timing just wasn't right. In the end we felt that our skills filled in a need. The cross culture of art and technology has always been a point of discussion between us. Elegant design and elegant technology always felt similar, but the path to get to those took different mindsets. We hope to take advantage of each our unique vantages on the subject to make outstanding products.

Focusing on the internet as the hub of out marketing plans we will keep costs down for our clients while improving how we track our efforts. this will allow us to be nimble with our decisions and make every penny count. Over the next weeks we will start getting the word out on the streets. So watch out we are planning on being big.
thanks
