Here is the first of what I hope will become a weekly (if not more frequent) blog on computer software, hardware, or whatever else I have on my mind from week to week. Over the last month, I have been trying to decide what I would like to blog about. I knew that I needed to start contributing something, partially because I want to show our clients how useful a blog can be in helping to define your company (and yourself) to the outside world. It also serves as a way to practice communicating effectively. If you are like me, this gets difficult to remember when you have your head down and are trying to keep projects rolling out quickly and efficiently.
After much deliberating, I finally decided to take some of our own counsel and blog about what I know. In this spirit, I plan to focus each entry on a new technology tip, trick, or general philosophy. Software developers often have to learn new things the hard way, usually by failing repeatedly, often publicly, and sometimes embarrassingly. We are generally expected to exhibit a high level of competence and confidence in a field that is marked by constantly evolving, sometimes poorly constructed "technology". My hope, then, is to share some of my knowledge as a service to my fellow techies in the hope that I can help them avoid learning it the hard way. Non-techies are, of course, invited to listen in as well.
